At Memorial Driving School, we provide a structured, safety-focused training experience designed to equip teen drivers with the skills and confidence they need for the road ahead.
Teens in Texas can begin the classroom portion at 14, but must be at least 15 to obtain their learner permit and start driving lessons.
No, obtaining your permit is part of the teen driver's education program. After the first 6 hours of course instruction, teens are eligible to take the written exam to obtain their learners license.
The complete teen driver's program usually takes 6-8 months to complete. The online course may be completed within a week or longer depending on the student's availability. Once the 24 hour course is completed, behind the wheel instruction can begin. Behind the wheel courses are spaced out to allow the student time to practice at home with a qualified adult.
Teen drivers education can be structured to meet your and your teens needs. Please review our standard programs above or give us a call for a customized package.
After completing the required classroom hours, we provide the certificate needed to take to the DPS along with a checklist of required documents.
Teen driving courses are scheduled in person or over the phone.
Yes, teens can take their DPS written exam and road test with us in a familiar environment, making the process smoother and less stressful.

Teens must be at least 16 years old and have held their Texas Learner License for a minimum of 6 months, or be 18 years of age. The exact 6-month eligibility date is listed on the back of the learner license, and the road test may be taken any time after that date.
Learner licenses generally expire on the student’s 18th birthday. If the license has expired, it must be renewed before the road test appointment.
A temporary paper permit is acceptable as long as it is still valid. The expiration date can be found above the photo on the temporary permit.

The certificate must be marked “For Driver License Only,” and the transfer box must remain unchecked.

The certificate must be valid and not expired. This free program is offered by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). To sign up, CLICK HERE.
The vehicle must pass a safety inspection to confirm it is safe and legally permitted to operate on public roads. CLICK HERE to view the vehicle checklist.
